Invisalign treatment is the process of wearing a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth week by week.

They aren’t fixed to your teeth so you can remove them and eat, drink and smile like you normally would. It also means you can keep your mouth in excellent health as there are no wires and brackets to navigate with your toothbrush.

The aligners are made of flexible plastic, a patented thermoplastic material called SmartTrack which was created exclusively for Invisalign treatment. Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible — people may not even  notice you’re wearing them.

When you’re ready to take the next step on your Invisalign journey, we will create a unique, digital treatment plan that will show you the final, desired position of your teeth after treatment and compare it to the position they are in now; before we even start! You are always in control and we can change this plan as many times as needed until you’re happy with your smile. Your aligners will apply the right amount of force to the right place at the right time based on this plan.

Your treatment will be carried out by Dr Shefali Sood or Dr Suraj Patel; who have over 20 years of experience between them in improving people’s smiles. At Londent, we appreciate that every smile is different and so requires a bespoke approach. We will take the time during your initial consultation to listen to your treatment goals and advise you on what we can achieve with Invisalign Go and whether we feel this is the right option for you.

What can Invisalign® fix?

invisalign before after

Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth is a condition where you do not have enough room for your teeth to fit normally. This can cause plaque or tartar and other harmful bacteria to build up as it is harder for you to brush and floss well.

invisalign before after

Gaps between teeth

Gaps between teeth is when there is extra space between two or more of your teeth. This can cause pockets between your teeth and gums and can cause food to get stuck making them tender and sore. This might also lead to gum disease.

Open bite

An Open bite is when your upper and lower teeth don't touch when you close your mouth. An open bite can make it hard for you to chew or difficult to bite even the most common of food like apples.

Underbite

An underbite is when you close your mouth and your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth. In many cases, this is actually a problem with your lower jaw being too far forward. An underbite can make it hard to chew properly and speak clearly, and it might cause your teeth to wear down more quickly.

Overbite

An overbite is when your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth. Most people have at least a little overbite. When your overbite is too large, your doctor might tell you you have a deep bite. This can cause problems, from your teeth wearing down to pain in your jaw.

Crossbite

A crossbite is when you close your mouth and yet some of your upper teeth are sitting inside your lower teeth rather than on the outside. A crossbite can make your teeth wear down or chip. It can also make your gums start to recede or make little notches above your gum line. This kind of damage can lead to painful gum problems or even bone loss.

FAQs

1. How long will the treatment last?

An average case will take 6 to 9 months. More complex cases can take longer, but you will be advised if this may be the case at your consultation.

2. How do I know if I am suitable?

We will complete a thorough smile assessment at your first appointment and let you know what we can achieve with Invisalign. However, some tooth movements can be tricky, and if we feel your case is too complex, we will be happy to refer you to an excellent orthodontist whom we work with closely. An orthodontist is a specialist in straightening teeth.

3. How do I keep my aligners clean?

Rinsing them regularly and brushing them with a soft toothbrush and warm water will keep them free of debris. We also recommend regular use of retainer cleaning tablets which will disinfect the aligners and ensure your mouth remains healthy and fresh.

4. How long do I have to wear the aligners for?

You need to wear the aligners for 20-22 hours per day to maintain the constant forces on the teeth for the most reliable result. You can drink water with the aligners in but must remove them to eat or drink anything except water.

5. Is it going to hurt?

You will feel pressure for the first few days of each aligner. Most people describe this as discomfort, and it means that your teeth are moving!

6. What happens when the treatment is finished?

You will need some form of retention to prevent your teeth from moving again. We highly recommend  Invisalign’s Vivera retainers, these are clear retainers similar to the aligners themselves, but even stronger.  They are removable and should be worn full-time for 3 months, and then overnight for life. Some people will benefit from the fixed wire in addition to the removable ones; this is a thin metal wire bonded to the back of your teeth to help keep them in place.
